WHO WE ARE

Executive Summary

Bridging the Gap Communal Living (BTGCL) is a 501C3) nonprofit organization founded in 2006. BTGCL mission is to provide comprehensive case management services to community residents and provide affordable housing opportunities. Our goal is to facilitate services that are flexible and tailored to the individual and/or families specific needs. BTGCL promotes families in becoming self –sufficient through a holistic approach linking clients to resources, supportive networks, and opportunities. BTGCL will empower & work with our clients to improve their life through accessing supportive services, affordable housing, mental and healthcare referrals, education and training, Life skills training, Career Development, and entrepreneurship coaching.

Bridging the Gap Communal Living is a social enterprise that helps people aspire, to become self-sufficient with pride and purpose. BTGCL visible social and economic impact unites families to enhance their quality of life, through stabilizing neighborhoods that included affordable housing creates vibrant, viable communities.

BRIDGING THE GAP COMMUNAL LIVING IMPACT FOCUS STATEMENT

HOUSING CRISIS

Research shows that the need for affordable housing and supportive services has been growing for the past10 years. The national trend in affordable housing has left those families with low-to-moderate income in great need of services. In Chicago, only 10 percent of affordable-housing need is met. In the U.S., nearly a third of all households spend 30 percent or more of their income on housing and 13 percent spend 50 percent or more. In IL, those numbers are even higher, 72 percent have cost burdens over 30 percent and 54 percent are cost burdened by paying over 50 percent of household income for housing. 


Housing is an issue that affects all races; twenty-three percent of all white households, 42 percent of black households, and 53 percent of all Hispanic households have a housing issue. Englewood is an area that has been hit hardest by foreclosure, crime; BTGCL is committed to advocating for housing and securing future funding and community partnerships and collaborations with Englewood Quality-of-Life-Plan to work on strategies to create new housing development Phase1, Phase2 and Phase 3.
